I Was Pleasantly Surprised! Print E-mail

As I drove around trying to decide what to eat for lunch, I happened to pass by this restaurant.  I've been meaning to stop by this place as the name of the restaurant used to grab my attention as I drove by (I've since learned it's pronounced "poo-kett").  I enjoy Thai cuisine and to find a place that doesn't try to fill you up with deep fried wontons and eggrolls as a lunch special is my kind of place.

After being quickly seated by the only waitress working at this place, I watched as she zipped to and fro between the tables attending to her customer's needs before she finally rushed up to my table and plopped down the menu and wine list.  They have a lunch special menu with prices in the $5.25 to $7.50 range.  I decided on the Chicken Red Curry and the Phad Thai noodles.  The chicken curry came with a choice of soup or salad and steamed or brown rice.  I opted for the salad and steamed rice.  Apparently, the Phad Thai didn't come with the extra sides.

I was half expecting the food to not really measure up but I was pleasantly surprised!  The chicken curry was extremely delicious.  It comes with a really thick and spicy panang curry sauce mixed with onions and bell peppers in a good size bowl.  I was really quite impressed!  I've been to other places where they would serve a very small portion of watered-down curry for the lunch special.  I was sweating as I munched on this spicy and succulent dish.  The Phad Thai noodles was very good as well, not runny like alot of places make it.  They only served chicken with the Phad Thai and not the customary combo with shrimp which is okay since I don't eat shrimp anyway.  The biggest surprise is that the cost for all this great food was a mere $5.25 each!  Imagine that!

The restaurant itself is medium sized and I was picturing the place being filled and could see it would make for a festive atmosphere especially during happy hour.  They also have patio seating for those who like to dine under the stars.

The menu advertised that they have a 10% discount on Tuesday and Thursday deliveries and a Happy Hour between 3-6 p.m.  I would definitely dine here again as I believe I've found a place that serves good, spicy curry at a reasonable price.
